In other news, I'm still working on a few things like our system for tracking reviews by genre, and creating a favorite system for reviews. No time-line on completion because of school and work. Sam

Detectives and Aliens

This holiday season has seen two greatly anticipated films released: Avatar and Sherlock Holmes. While Avatar made over $200 million worldwide it's first weekend is it worth seeing? Does Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes live up to the icon that is Holmes? We've taken the time to see both films and help you decide. It's cold outside (depending on where you are) so why not take the time to read our reviews before you commit to venturing into the cold?
DS Lite
by scone on Dec 3rd 2009 at 12:01PM
On Black Friday I stood in line at Walmart with all the bargain barbarians to get my hands on a DS Lite finally. I've put off getting a DS because to me I just wasn't interested enough in the minigames to pay 150+ for the system to play them on, especially with an iPhone that plays similar games. The novelty of the iPhone games wears off quick because most control schemes just don't work well for the games. The DS however has a unique and usable control system, depending on the game. I usually just use the physical buttons and D-pad to control the games, but the second screen does give you the ability to have extra control and functions that buttons just don't allow, like drawing or writing without a keyboard.
I've got two games for it so far, Pokemon Platinum edition and Lock's Quest and will be writing reviews for them in the next couple of days. Things are busy with just finishing midterms it seems and now it's already coming up on finals. This may make reviews sparse, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything worth reading here. We have plenty to read and you can always comment to contribute your own review. Also, you can contact us to request a review and we will put it at the top of the pile.
Assassin's Creed II - A first look
by scone on Nov 24th 2009 at 12:03PM
Okay I've been playing Assassin's Creed II off and on for the past 3-4 days and I'm having a lot of fun, but I haven't had enough dedicated time to finish it. I can give a first impression though, I'm loving it. I played the first game, but never finished it, so I was missing how that story resolved, but I don't feel like I lost much. I'm definitely enjoying it more than the first Assassin's Creed, they really polished the game play and made it more than just a freerunner with swords and knives.
A lot of the game play is the same, but upgraded and with new features added. More ways to assassinate and kill people, new weapons that can be upgraded or you can even go purchase new ones, along with armor. They even let you dye your clothes to change you look.
So, I didn't buy it afterall, I got it from Gamefly and I'm waiting until I beat it to see if I'll want to replay it, if so I'll just buy it directly from them otherwise, I'm not out any money for a game I'll never play again. I highly recommend trying this if you play a lot of games. It ends up being cheaper than going to the store to rent games.
